Many requests have come in recently for 8.5×11 dual sided Inkjet paper for Photo Books. In my research, the best value for the dollar that I have found is made by Intelicoat. The two products I have found are:
Firenze 132 or Firenze 170: Both coated matte presentation inkjet papers.
Specifics respectively are:
Firenze products are available in many roll and cut sheet sizes, work with both dye and pigmented inks on Piezo, Canon, HP, Encad & ColorSpan printers. These papers work best in environments between 65-86degrees F and between 30-70% Relative Humidity. Longer ink dry times will occur in Higher Relative Humidity enviroments. Color profiles are available for selected RIP, ink and printer combinations from the magicinkjet.com website.
These coated matte presentation papers can be overlaminated with most cold laminates and low temp hot laminates, but cold are preferred and give better adhesion results. Make sure the images are completely dry before applying lamination. Cold, pressure-sensitive adhesives usually provide the best bond and are recommended. More information can be found at the magicinkjet website.
Cut sheet purchases for 8.5×11 Firenze 132 is 1000 sheet minimum and 500 sheets for Firenze 170. The cost per sheet is very low compared to other popular dual-sided injet materials on the market. Contact Marcia directly for pricing at 800-544-1609 or marcia@diversifiedimaging.net

Does Brand Loyalty even matter anymore? If the doors to photo labs are closing en mass because the store can’t pay the bills due to skyrocketing cost of materials and declining customer spending, does brand loyalty even matter?
For my 9+ years as a Sales Rep for Diversified Imaging Supply, I have heard labs say hundreds of times that “my customers demand Kodak.” It’s like the single heckler at the political rally, shouting his opposition to a candidate. Does one voice in a crowd of thousands even matter? What about the many who remain polite and silent? And is paying top dollar for materials, worth closing your business doors just to satisfy one or a few voices? It’s your call.
Several months ago my neighbor brought her wedding album to me to look at. It was in a beautifully black leather bound album. As I flipped through the pages, I could see that the photographer shot digital. After scouring through 40 some pages, and watching my neighbor’s eyes sparkle with joy and pride, I couldn’t hide my furled brow which was a response to the horrible color of the images! Roughly 60% of the images were acceptable, the other 40% the color was sooooo off kilter that I could have sworn the wedding had been shot with that roll of film that sits in Grandma’s camera in the back seat of a hot car for a year. Ya know, that ugly red thing!

So my next question then becomes, does paper brand even matter in Wedding, Sports and Schools anymore? My former RIT professors would rescind my degree in Photographic Illustration if they heard me say that! Of course, we are all professionals and want, what we think are the best materials available, including me!
But here is my case in point. I have 8 school and studio photographs of my youngest grandson who is now 9years old. Of the 8 so-called “professional” images…only 2 are even worth looking at or keeping!!!!! AND it has nothing to do with the RA4 paper the images are printed on, nor the chemistry that processed it…it’s all about the exposure & composition of the subject in the image! Good golly, if my son and daughter-in-law will pay for those images, they will pay for anything! Every one of the images above is printed on Kodak Supra Endura. I will guess that the 1st two were shot on film and the 2nd two on the right are digital. It’s like drinking fine wine from a plastic glass! The paper doesn’t seem to make a difference in these photos, but the exposure and the composition certainly do! Am I correct? Why would a photographer spend top dollar on the paper to print the image on the far right????? (last image in the series, may show at the bottom of the screen)
The days of “you get what you pay for” are over. There is one great paper on the market now that is very reasonably priced. While this “brand” is lesser known, the QUALITY stands up to and EXCEEDS higher priced papers on the market. That paper is DNP! Testimony from my customers include: “Wow, I was surprised, this DNP paper is Great; I really get better blacks on the DNP.” Labs throughout the country are switching to DNP from 4in to 50in users.
I have available, a PRICE COMPARISON sheet comparing DNP-FD, DNP-A9 Universal, Kodak Royal, Edge & Supra and finally Fuji Pro C & Fuji Crystal Archive Type II. If you would like to receive a copy of the Price Comparison, please email marcia@diversifiedimaging.net and put in the subject line SEND ME PRICES! I will forward a copy of the list to you.
Also, if you HAVE NOT tested DNP yet, Call or email Marcia to find out if you qualify for a free roll of DNP to test. Marcia can be reached at 800-544-1609 or marcia@diversifiedimaging.net
That’s the end of my rant for the day. Get Ready folks…..the holidays are approaching fast!
